I work as a mixed-media artist from a studio at Wimbledon Art Studios. My work can vary in style as it is really about the opportunity for me to explore essentially colour and shape through painting, and to experiment with various materials to construct 3D pieces. I am currently inspired by everyday objects and my intention is usually to express an idea in an uplifting and lighthearted way. Subject matter can be of secondary importance, but it is whatever excites, or I find amusing, which can simply be a colour, the milky quality of plaster, a sheep’s coat (fibre). My style has grown through looking at Pop Art for its quirky expression of every-day objects and also the work of Matisse and Rembrandt. The materials I am currently working with are: acrylic paints; wax; clay,; plaster; fibre. Artwork gives me the freedom to try out different media and ways of expression. The tools are varied and are either bought or made-up. I begin by drawing in a sketchbook to work out the idea quickly and find a composition.
